The Vanuatu Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee(VASANOC) have set their focus on Saipan 2022 Pacific Mini games and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

VASANOC continue to promote and develop Vanuatu athletes.

This year VASANOC focused on Tokyo Olympic games 2020. VASANOC CEO James Malau explained the difficulties and the challenges they faced because of the COVID 19 pandemic.

“Since last year until know we go through many changes, the new changes due to COVID 19. Especially when we prepare to send a team to another country for a competition, normally VASANOC is in charge for the trip.

“We have to prepare before and then earlier before the departure day and make sure that every flights are confirmed. Sometimes, the borders are closed and we have to cancel the flights”, he said.

VASANOC is now focusing for next year games Saipan and Birmingham games and they hope that team Vanuatu will be ready to fly our flag outside Vanuatu.

The VASANOC CEO also affirmed the importance of developing youths round Vanuatu through sport activities.

“Many of us do not realize that the Youths is over 50 percent of our population. So even though most of the Youths did not involve in sport activities, the Ministry concern is doing his best to provide services to all the youth in Vanuatu”, he said.
