There is high chance for Vanuatu Weightlifting Federation (VWF) to travel with two female lifters to the 2023 Pacific Games.
Currently, there is only one female lifter Ajah Pritchard-Lolo in the sport. VWF President, William Worworkon, confirmed there is high chance for Team Vanuatu Weightlifting to travel with two female lifters.
“It is possible for us to get another female lifter for the game,” he said.
Ajah represented Vanuatu in weightlifting in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. She represented Vanuatu at the 5th ONOC Athletes Forum from 22nd to 24th September 2022 in Fiji. Worworkon also stressed that the biggest challenge lifters and other Vanuatu athletes are facing now is mental preparation following the devastation left behind by Tropical Cyclones Judy and Kevin.
“As we look forward for the Pacific Games one of the biggest challenge for athletes now is mental preparation not only for lifters but for all Vanuatu athletes.
“Most of these athletes homes and families affected by the two cyclones so it’s important for them to prepare well mentally before the tournament,” Worworkon said.
VWF is expected to sent four to five weightlifters.
