Splash Division 1 championship of the Port Vila Football Association (PVFA), went ahead on Tuesday at Korman Stadium.
PVFA Super Cup winners United Malampa Football Club (FC) took on Lakotau from Eratap village and the game ended up in a 2-2 draw. After the match, Lakotau coach, Bong Kalorus, said he was really glad with his team's performance as it is their first time to play in Division 1 and to draw their second match after beating fellow newly promoted side Naka 5-4 in last week's match.
The boys in red were leading by 2-0 for most of the match through goals from John Maribo and Joel Meltek. However, United Malampa FC showed they were not going down and managed to score two goals in the final fifteen minutes of the game.
Coach Kalorus says he believed his boys were going for their second victory while leading by 2-0, they made a few mistakes in defense which allowed their opponents to score.
Kalorus says he always reminds his boys to play slowly and think carefully during the match.
He adds his team is made up of only village boys and unlike other teams they have not taken in any new players to build up to success. This means players on the field are the exact same players which played last season in Division 2 and got promoted to Division 1.
Kalorus says their aim is to reach the Premiership one day.
Coach Kalorus thanked all the supporters for turning up in numbers to cheer them on, PVFA for organizing the games and God for being with them every day.
