Hekari United, Solomon Warriors, Tiga Sport and Lupe Ole Soaga are out of the Oceania Champions League (OCL) after a week of great competition displayed in front of football fans in Port Vila and Luganville.
Hekari fell short of making it into the final four as AS Pirae toppled its defense wall to crave a second goal and sealed its position as leader of Pool B classmen. AS Pirae’s two goals were enough for the Tahitian champion to sail into the second stage.
Tiga Sport and Hekari United both had the advantage of making it into the second stage with both having three points in Pool B classmen. Tiga Sport was denied the chance to progress onto the second stage as the host team, Ifira Black Bird sealed their qualifier with a 1-nil goal that was enough to confirm their sport after Hekari’s loss to AS Pirae.
Tiga Sport had a lot of chances however could not divert the chances into goals until the final whistle.
In Pool A, a determined young Solomon Warriors team clash with Suva FC saw the Warriors go down to a 2-nil loss after an impressive challenge between the two teams who are not new to the competition.
The warriors created goal opportunities however the Suva defense wall continued to strengthen up to the 90th minute.
Samoa’s Lupe Ole Soaga didn’t play make its final pool game against Auckland City due to player injuries within the Samoan club champion. Lupe Ole Soaga lost all games and is fourth in Pool A.
The Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) Media confirmed that Hekari is the first team to depart the country yesterday and Tiga Sport will leave for home tomorrow while Solomon Warriors and Lupe Ole Soaga are yet to confirm their departure dates.
Defending champion, Auckland City FC, Suva FC, Ifira B FC, and AS Pirae are the final four teams still in the race for the 2023 OCL title.
Auckland City FC and Suva FC have arrived in Port Vila, to continue preparations for the semi-finals tomorrow.
