The Vanuatu national darts team and management had acknowledged all sponsors for their support towards the Port Vila Darts Association (PVDA)’s initiative in getting a team to the third edition of the South Pacific Darts Championship (SPDC) last week in Tonga.
PVDA President, Stu McEwen stated that the team did not manage to reach the final, however overall, it was a great championship with all teams competitive after the COVID-19 lockdown and an opportunity for new players to experience.
Mr. McEwen commented that the strength and quality of dart players around the South Pacific has greatly increased and whilst Vanuatu did not win a medal, they can hold their heads high and will take much from the championships and know what it needs to do now to be more competitive in the next SPDC to be held in Fiji in January 2025.
“A huge thank you to Carbine Club, Titan FX, Mitch and Lynn Clements, Vasanoc, MoYSD, VTO, NBV, Bred Bank and Air Vanuatu for their generous sponsorship towards our national darts teams. Without such funding attending this prestigious event would be impossible,” said Mr. McEwen.
“Without your support and the fundraising activities we held it would have been a daunting task to get them all there.
“It was a great trip, many new friends made, some old faces from the 2018 and 2020 championships present.
“The team has come back confident they can improve on their efforts for the next SPDC and will train hard together with Team Coach Deric Wong to ensure better results next time.”
Mr. McEwen also commented that PVDA will have its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday next week.
“During the meeting, our Team Captains will present their reports from Tonga, as well as my brief report of the overall Championship and we will be looking at ways to further foster the growth of Darts as a sport throughout Efate and hopefully Vanuatu.
“Anyone is welcome to attend,” he said.
The SPDC also elected its new board committee in Tonga after the championship.
