The Port Vila Netball Association [PVNA] started its 2023 season last Saturday at Korman Stadium and featured two matches.
In the first game, defending champions Impulse (formerly known as Hawks), showed that they are out to defend their title this year as they beat Ambassadors by 47 -18. Impulse goalkeeper Gracella Tari said she was happy to be able to play netball again as she enjoyed their first victory.
In the second game, Manarokesa showed that experience pays off when they beat a young but well-determined Blue Ravens [formerly known as USP] by 36 -14.
The Blue Ravens managed to create some turnovers and did manage to reduce the scoring rate of their opponents in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, however, the girls in black managed to play into space when attacking and managed to get around Raven’s defense in order to not let the girls in blue catch up.
Blue Ravens captain, Fiona Nelson said she was happy to be able to play netball again after a while.
Nelson is happy to have many young players in their lineup for this season and believes, the more they train together, the better they can play as a team.
PVNA President Minnie Tagaro says, the other two games between Sia Raga and Tavola and the match between Buluana and Yaba Swifts [formerly known as Tafea] were canceled and will be played at the end of the season as outstanding games as the league must move on with its schedule.
Malapoa College Empresses had the bye last weekend.
Tagaro says for this year’s season, the championship is self-sponsored.
