Ambae Day sports program to be all mixed

The Ambaen community in Port Vila are celebrating Ambae Day at Korman Stadium today.

The actual day is October 1 which marks the total evacuation of the island from the volcanic erruption in 2017, however since it fell on a weekday, the community are celebrating today since it is also Constitution Day, a public holiday.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Andrew Molivurae says todays sports program includes, Volleyball, beach volleyball (if possible), volleyball, netball and 7 a side football.

Molivurae, however says the only difference to this years program is all the games must involve mix teams meaning boys and girls.

Molivurae says this is to make the program more inclusive and to also reduce the number of teams so the sports programs wrap up around 3pm today. He explains that he does not want the program to drag on into the late hours of the night like last year when there were separate competitions for boys and girls.

Molivurae is encouraging all Ambaens interested in forming a team to be at Korman before 7am. Registration for a sports team is VT 1,000.
