Dear Editor,

I wish to correct part of the information carried in your feature article in issue # 6398 (Tuesday 9 November 2021) on the above-mentioned.

Currently the Vanuatu Primary Producers Authority (VPPA) is not charging a tax on kava exports. Rather, we are in consultation with the kava industry, and other product export stakeholders to establish a levy system as previously managed under the Vanuatu Commodities Marketing Board. Our intentions are mandated under the VPPA Act, and what we intend on collecting will be ploughed back into the productive sector. It is unfair to associate the VPPA with what other sectors of government who have come in without properly consulting the stakeholders concerned.
