The continuous vandalism and partying under the influence of alcohol, followed by littering all over the Fatumauri Park is a disgrace.
There is only so much the Vanuatu Project Management Unit (VPMU) can do but it should work more persistently with the Port Vila Municipal Council (PVMC) to step up control in the area because apparently not all people can use their brains and behave responsibility.
For starters, fence the area and put up big signs, in big bold letters or in red font with the rules previously advocated for by the VPMU. Make it clear that it is an alcohol-free zone and encourage people to use the garbage bins.
The PVMC should post security guards in this area at all times and there should be on the spot fines for littering- another way for PVMC to earn revenue and get people to think and act more responsibly.
And before I forget, have the rules in English, French and Bislama-listed with the appropriate fines.
