The President of the Union of the Moderate Parties (UMP), Serge Rialuth Vohor, told the party’s new Luganville regional committee members not to compromise the future of the people.
He made the remarks last weekend during the election of the Luganville new UMP regional committee.
“Last Sunday, the UMP President, Serge Vohor, organized a special meeting with the new Luganville regional committee members and briefed us on the party political strategies for both the 2015 Luganville Municipal Elections and the 2016 national parliamentary elections. The UMP President called on the UMP not to compromise the future of the people of Vanuatu, but to ensure that the interest of the people of Vanuatu is always at the forefront,” said the new UMP Regional President, Charlie Ulas.
“The UMP party is revisiting its policies that has guided the party before, during and after independence in 1980 up to now to ensure it maintains the national interest for and on behalf of the people of the Republic of Vanuatu, the economic and social welfare of the people that must always be at the forefront,” said Ulas.
He said one of the important functions of the new UMP Luganville regional committee is to work very closely with the chiefs, the women, the youths and the churches so as to ensure that the UMP policies in the northern town cater for the needs of the grass roots in all areas of economic, social and other development for the well being of the population and the residents of Luganville.
“We know there are political and other challenges ahead but UMP is well prepared to take on these challenges not for the party interest but for the interest of the people of Luganville because it is the second largest town in Vanuatu that serves the highest population of Vanuatu from the northern islands,” Ulas told the Daily Post by phone yesterday afternoon.
The new UMP Lugaville regional committee members are; President Charlie Ulas, Vice-President Raul Woleg, Secretary Morrison Joel, and Treasurer Prosper Buletari. Members of the committee include the women, youth and chiefs representatives.
“I can also confirm that the UMP Luganville regional committee will field women candidates in the 2015 Luganville Municipal Council elections in the reserve seats for women,” said Ulas.
“UMP Luganville regional committee is also very pleased to note that a number of politicians and supporters who left the party for one reason or another over the past years are returning to the UMP.
“Luganville, Santo, has always been a UMP stronghold until just recently. The Party has had two Lord Mayors in Luganville in the past and currently has two councillors,” he said.
The new UMP Luganville regional committee president said the party is confident of winning more councillors, especially women in the women reserve seats in the 2015 Luganville Municipal Elections and also confident to win a seat in the 2015 parliamentary general elections in 2016.
