The Vanuatu delegation to the Fifth Workshop between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Political Parties in the Pacific Island Countries arrived in Guangzhou in China’s southern Guangdong Province Monday morning ahead of the 10-day workshop beginning today.

The delegation comprises of Daniel Kalo Toara – the Vice-President of Green Confederation, Member of Parliament for the Shepherds Group and Minister for Youth and Sports Development; Bruno Lengkone, Treasurer for the National United Party and MP for Ambrym; Daniel Nalet, a member of the National Executive Committee of Graon and Jastis Party and Member of Parliament for Malekula, and Willie Lop, Secretary General of the People’s Progressive Party and a former Member of Parliament.

The fifth member of the delegation, John Tesei, a senior member of the Vanua’aku Party and Member of Parliament for Tafea Outer-islands did not make the trip due to uncompleted travel documents.

Political Party leaders from Samoa, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Federated States of Micronesia are also here for the workshop with Papua New Guinea the final delegation to arrive this morning before the opening this afternoon.

“We hope to exchange experiences in various fields so as to learn from each other and develop together,” the CPC says.

“Your visit to China will provide an opportunity to know more about China’s development, CPC and Chinese government policies.”

The theme of this workshop is ‘The New Development and New Opportunities of China’ during which CPC also hopes to hear about the participants’ countries, their people and their political parties.

Organizers of the workshop planned to begin the trip in Guangzhou because the province of Guangdong has many similarities to the Pacific Island Countries and also because of the people’s longstanding economic links with the people of the Pacific island countries.

The program of the workshop in Guangzhou will include visits to some economic activities of the province and discuss with Duangdong province officials various departments including commerce and foreign investment promotions.
