Ultimatum for Vehicle Owners

Detained vehicles held at the Convention Centre compound on Day One of the Operation Klinim Rod

Owners of vehicles that are currently being detained within the Convention Centre compound have been given an ultimatum to comply with traffic requirements and fines by 3pm on September 30, 2021, or they will lose their vehicles to the state.

Port Vila City Council (PVCC) has instructed the owners to sort out their traffic fines and documents, and have their vehicles removed.

If the owners failed to pay their fines, the vehicles will become government properties, in accordance with the Road Traffic [CAP] 29 (54) (7) which states, “A vehicle is forfeited to the State if the owner does not make a request under subsection 3 within 10 working days after the detention.”

The vehicle owners are encouraged to visit the PVCC office and seek advice or assistance should they need it, in order to retain their vehicles.

A joint operation called the Operation Klinim Rod undertaken by the Vanuatu Police Force, Public Land Transport Authority (PLTA) and PVCC had resulted in the detention of these vehicles, due to traffic regulation breaches.
