Speaker reminds leaders on their affiliation plans

Speaker of Parliament, MP Simeon Seule has reminded the Members of Parliament (MP) who wish to switch their affiliations to notify the Office of the Speaker.

Seule said all leaders are elected through their political affiliation with a respective political party.

Therefore, if the MPs are planning to move to another party, they must inform the Speaker in writing.

Standing Orders 95 (1) (a) states, “Every Member must, within three (3) weeks of signing the Roll of Members of Parliament, inform the Speaker in writing of the following: (a) The Member’s affiliation or alliance with any political party or group represented in Parliament.”

The announcement was made in Parliament this week.
