A call has been reiterated to all seasonal workers abroad to ensure they are fully vaccinated prior to returning home.
Commissioner of Labour, Murielle Meltenoven made the call following the latest announcement on compulsory vaccination policy for all seasonal workers under the Recognised Seasonal Employer program.
“Vanuatu has a small population compared to most of the Pacific island countries, and the health system is not capable of handling the COVID cases should there be an outbreak in the country,” the Commissioner said.
“Therefore, to ensure their communities, and importantly, their families are protected from this deadly disease, our workers must receive the two required doses, before they are repatriated back to Vanuatu.”
The Labour boss said God has answered the nation’s payers, which saw the creation of the vaccine.
“I want to encourage all our workers overseas to make efforts to receive their jabs,” she said.
“Fiji and New Caledonia, our very close neighbours are examples of why everyone must make it a priority to be fully vaccinated.”
In its effort to strengthen Vanuatu’s entry requirement, all seasonal workers travelling to New Zealand must be fully vaccinated before departing Vanuatu. This directive will be implemented from January 2022.
