Port Vila Municipal Council has recently published the first edition of its official newsletter, aimed to highlight to its residents about the council’s innovative practices and endeavors.
Approximately 1000 copies printed at the Suns Production Ltd were distributed freely to the six provinces in the country, the Luganville Municipality, within the five Port Vila ward councils, and to PVMC’s Sister Cities, Dumbea and Lifou in New Caledonia.
Publishing the council’s own newsletter drives information down to the community level by a means of ensuring all citizens of Port Vila City knows what the council is doing, Mayor Sumptoh Ulrich said during the launching event of the initiative.
Creating a newsletter is part of the council’s vision of providing service back to the people. In other words, every citizen has the right to know what things the council whom they elected is doing and have accomplished.
This development also creates a new phase in the history of Port Vila Municipal Council, said the mayor.
Printed in the three official languages: English, French and Bislama, the newsletter will be available to everyone after every two months. The Daily Post was told the second edition is expected to be print in September.
Included inside the first edition was the name of all PVMC Councillors. Staff of the council are acknowledged for their hard work in bringing out the newsletter.
Apart from the newsletter, PVMC currently has a social Facebook page. Members of the Port Vila community who have access to Internet get the chance to read about any information, latest development, and by-laws of the council.
Users of the social media are advised to contribute to the development directly by providing constructive comments and suggestions or report matters of concern through the website unlike the previous years it was difficult to talk or express concerns to the council.
