The Prime Minister, Moana Carcasses, is reported to have sustained injuries to both eyes from fireworks flares Tuesday night during celebrations following the preliminary results of the by-election that showed his group’s candidate, Jean-Yves Chabod, was in the clear lead.
Pro Medical ambulance services said they attended a scene where an injured male was treated on the scene for burns to the face before being taken to the Vila Central Hospital for further treatment.
The Government’s Public Relations Officer, Letty Kaltonga, confirmed the Prime Minister sustained minor injuries to both eyes from fireworks flares around midnight Tuesday.
She said the incident happened during celebration after preliminary results from the day’s by-elections for the Parliamentary election in Port Vila Constituency became clear his group’s candidate, Jean-Yves Chabod was in the lead.
The PRO said the Prime Minister Carcasses was taken to the Vila Central Hospital where he was treated for “only minor injuries to both eyes then released to go home where he is resting before returning to work” today.
In conjunction to this story, Pro Medical’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Benjamin, says Pro Medical are grateful to those people who called the ambulance service to assist in the situation. He says people are being encouraged to call Pro Medical for help in any such situation requiring medical assistance.
