Opposition meets to fill positions

Port Vila UMP MP Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau (r) reported to be new Opposition Leader. Opposition is to confirm in Press Conference Wednesday morning

The Opposition met Monday morning to choose Members within their ranks to fill positions in the Opposition and the results were due to be announced to the public in the press conference on Wednesday morning.

However, these have been leaked through the social media which showed that the newly-elected Opposition Leader chosen by the Opposition Bloc is UMP Member of Parliament for Port Vila, Ishmael Kalsakau.

The post on Yumi Toktok Sense Facebook group showed that former Prime Minister Sato Kilman, Member of Parliament for Malekula is the new Deputy Opposition Leader, Member for Torres, Christophe Emelee and former Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity Minister is the Parliamentary Opposition Whip, and MP for Santo and former Minister of Internal Affairs, Hoea Nevu is the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee Chairman.

It is believed the Opposition Press Conference on Wednesday morning will formally confirm these appointments.

As of the end of the first sitting of this new Parliament last Thursday the Opposition had 18 Members. But reports say the second Green Confederation Member in Parliament, Kalo Seule, MP for Port Vila has moved to the Government side to join the Vice President of the party, Toara Daniel Kalo, the Minister of Health.
