Ohlen Mataso community receives 6,000lt water tank

The community of Ohlen Mataso, now has a new 6,000 litre water tank provided under a project facilitated by Port Vila Councilor for the Northern Ward, Rose Peter and funded through the Australian High Commission.

The tank will greatly assist the community in the Northern Ward improve the water, sanitation and hygiene levels of the people.

Cr. Peter handed over the tank to the chief and the people of Ohlen Mataso at a ceremony last month, witnessed by the Minister of Lands, Ralph Regenvanu.

“We thought that only Members of Parliament could assist communities with this kind of project, but we are surprised that a “small government” through a councilor could also facilitate such a much needed assistance for my community,” the chief said.

Under the project with funding from the Australian High Commission, Cr. Peter has handed over the same type of tank to Ohlen White Wood and another one installed and handed over at Ohlen Nabanga.

Tanks for Ohlen Freswind Streets 73, 74, and 75 are still to be installed once proper locations have been identified.

The 6,000 litres water tanks were purchased from Fibreglass Vanuatu and the Australian High Commission also provided fittings and bags of cement to the communities who constructed the concrete bases for the tanks.
