Pentecost Island recorded a total of 99 positive cases between April 21 and 26.
After 27 positive cases which were detected at Ranwadi Secondary School last Thursday, Latano area in North Pentecost became the second area with 24 positive cases, Bwatnapni -12, Enkul — 11, Ledungsivi — 7, Pangi — 7, Lini Memorial School — 5, Melsisi — 3 and Atavtabanga — 3.
All 99 positive cases were detected on the Western side of the island. Since last week, no tests were conducted on the Eastern side due to the difficulty to access the area by land and sea transport.
However, it is suspected there are positive cases there due to the movement of students from the three main secondary schools on the Western side. The students had been sent home last week, after the PENAMA Health Team detected 27 positive cases at Ranwadi School among students with flu-like symptoms. The same symptoms were also reported at Melsisi and Bwatnapni Secondary schools, two weeks before Ranwadi.
The high number of positive cases in central Pentecost has prompted the PENAMA Health team to push for vaccination of non-vaccinated people.
PENAMA Health Manager, Markson Tabi, said only 53% of the people in this area have been vaccinated.
Among the total of 99 positives cases on Pentecost, 30 positive cases are in central Pentecost.
