Celebration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISDI) 2016 with the theme “ICT entrepreneurship for social impact” is taking place today and Wednesday at the newly completed National Convention Centre in Port Vila.
The official opening by Prime Minister Charlot Salwai will take place at 9am.
ICT Days 2016 will provide an environment and platform for delegates, technology providers and specialists to come together to share experiences, discuss latest technology advances, address key issues and challenges and explore new business opportunities within the telecommunications industry, organizers say.
“ICT Days 2016 will be the opportunity to reinforce relationships among all players of the ICT ecosystem, including public administrations, private sector companies, entrepreneurs, non-for-profits, as well as all the people living in the Pacific.
“Together we will build a bright digital future for all whilst enhancing collaboration and celebrating the whole ICT sector.”
Prime Minister Charlot Salwai, in his message to PICTD 2016 attendees, underscores the work of the different sectors in the development ICT in Vanuatu since Pacific ICT Day started in 2012, including the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OCGIO).
“The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, along with the Telecommunications Radio Communications Regulation (TRR) have worked long hours to organize an impressive event with an interesting line up of speakers and panelists,” he said.
The packed two days of discussion on various aspects of ICT will including ICT entrepreneurship for social impact, ICT and decentralization, the role of ICT entrepreneurs and SMEs in economic growth, telemedicine – the use of telecommunication and information technologies to provide clinical health care at a distance, and universal ICT access and school connectivity.
Outside the venue there will be live entertainment.
