Iauko Group is preparing to field nine candidates to contest the next general election, which has been set for January 22, 2016 depending on the result of the constitutional case challenging the dissolution of the Parliament by the Head of State, President Bauldwin Lonsdale early this month. The court will hand down its decision on the case next Wednesday.
Among the 9 listed are two high profile land advocates, Russell Nari and Levi Tarosa.
Russell Nari is the elder brother of the President of Iauko Group, Tony Nari.
“The move by Russell Nari and me in joining the Iauko Group signifies a major shift away from the Vanua’aku Pati’s once dominating position as the party holding the leading role in the fight for indigenous land ownership rights to Iauko Group,” Tasora said.
The once-strong supporter of VP, who contested the last general election on Efate Rural on behalf of the Vanua’aku Pati did not hesitate to state that the party with the most potential for growth day is Iauko Group.
“I believe the party that has the most potential for growth today is Iauko Group due to its young leadership as a result of the recent jailing of its top leadership.”
The Interim President of Iauko Group Tony Nari, Pascal Iauko – son of the late leader of the group, Harry Iauko and John Amos were among 14 MPs jailed last month after being convicted on bribery charges.
