In response to the needs expressed by the Vanuatu authorities to face the COVID-19 pandemic, the Crisis and Support Centre (CDCS) of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, in conjunction with the Ministry of Solidarity and Health and the Government of New Caledonia, conducted have a second operation to deliver equipment to cope with the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Vanuatu.
This equipment, partly financed by the CDCS of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, and partly donated by the French Ministry of Solidarity and Health, includes 4 oxygen generators, 30,000 tests and medicines to treat severe forms of COVID-19. It also includes 24,000 tests donated by the government of New Caledonia.
This new aid was sent to Vanuatu by a plane of the Armed Forces in New Caledonia (FANC), in liaison with the French Embassy in Port Vila.
It comes after a first solidarity operation for the benefit of the people of Vanuatu on April 4, and is part of the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism (UPCM).
Just last month, in response to the needs expressed by the Vanuatu authorities to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, France mobilised and established solidarity operations for the benefit of the Vanuatu people.
The first batch of assistance included 50,000 antigenic tests and 50,000 self-tests, as well as 30,000 FFP2 masks and 200 pulse oximeters in order to combat the resurgence of Covid cases in Vanuatu. These materials were transported to Vanuatu by a CASA aircraft of the FANC.
