The office of the Speaker of Parliament has confirmed to Daily Post that the legal advise received by the Speaker’s Office is that the motion of no trust is in order and will be debated on Thursday next week.
A total of 21 Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) signed the motion against Prime Minister, Joe Natuman.
Under the relevant laws of the Parliament, any motion of no confidence will only be debated after the required 7 days maturity as of the date it was deposited and received by the Office of the Speaker of Parliament.
The Opposition-sponsored motion against Prime Minister Joe Natuman outlined four points as being the reasons for not having confidence in the prime minister.
The four points as the Daily Post understands relates to; the removal of the Opposition MPs from Parliament which they say was unconstitutional; Unfair cyclone Pam funds distribution relating to the affected population of the different Islands and population of Vanuatu; issue relating to the e-visa scheme in China and the allegations of misuse of funds allegedly pertaining to the funds of the scheme and alleged that Prime Minister was giving wrong direction to the country in inactivities, favoritism and direction towards the past instead of focusing on the economic sovereignty and the future.
The motion is moved by the Port Vila MP and Leader of the Opposition, MP Moana Caracasses, and the Santo Rural MP and the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Serge Vohor.
A source within the Speaker’s Office said the outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs and the President of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), his Vice-President and Torba MP, Dunstan Hilton, and the outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alfred Carlot, have not signed the motion but whether they will support the motion on Thursday next week remains to be seen when the motion is brought into Parliament for debate.
The Daily Post understand that the two new Government Ministers; Foreign Affairs Minister Kalvao Moli and Justice Minister Hosea Nevu, have also signed the motion of no confidence, but now that they have joined the Government bloc and holding ministerial portfolios, they will withdraw their signatures next week.
