Epauto Seventh Day Adventist Senior Secondary School in Port Vila has donated to the SMART Sistas Robot Team towards the team’s participation in the FIRST Global Challenge in Washington, DC this month.
The presentation took place at the school this week in front of all the teachers as students are busy studying for Mid-Year Exams. Treasurer of SMART Sistas Committee, Mrs Isabelle Nganga and one of the SMART Sistas Robot Team girls, Lana Molivurae, received the donation.
The Principal, Mrs Melanie Luke, conveyed to the Committee that, Epauto SDA Senior Secondary is so fortunate that one of their students is involved with the SMART Sistas Robot Team and they wanted to support her and the Team going to Washington, DC.
The school did a love offering where students and teachers contributed around Vt20,500 and the school topped it up to come to theVt40,500 that was donated.
Chairman of SMART Sistas Committee, Rodney Philemon, conveyed their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Epauto SDA Senior Secondary School for their response to allow Lana Molivurae, a student at the school and one of the members, to leave school to attend the Robotic Challenge and their support towards Lana and the Team.
Lana is the Team Leader and the Team Spokesperson for the SMART Sistas Robot Team. Lana’s dad, Andrew Molivurae, who is also a member of the SMART Sistas Committee thanked the school and commented that there were more ICT initiatives coming up in the years to come and Epauto with its newly-completed Computer Lab, can provide good IT curriculum to enhance ICT initiatives in the Country.
The Treasurer of the Committee, Mrs Nganga added that, “Thank you to the teachers for their commitment, so students like Lana can excel with committed teachers like you... continue the good work to build our future Innovative leaders for this Country.”
Telecommunications and Radio-communications Regulatory authority (TRR) is also a sponsor towards the SMART Sistas Robot Team Vanuatu to Washington DC. They have sponsored the lodging of the Team at George Washington University amounting to Vt108,000.
Meanwhile, the Fundraising scheduled for Sunday, June 18th June, was postponed due to the loss of the Head of State’s loss and mourning period and will now be held tomorrow, Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Market House in Port Vila.
The SMART Sistas Fundraising go from 11.00am to 5.00pm with a sausage sizzle and entertainment by Mr. Max Albert. 12-1pm, there will be Van2017 Promotions/Awareness/Educational Activities. 1.00pm — slide show; 2.00pm – Robot Display for public Viewing; 3.00pm – Kava on sale, 5.00pm – fundraising close.
