The Central Primary School held its Annual Sports Festival on Thursday, July 23 in which 500 children from the school’s kindergarten to Year Six levels, divided in four houses in the colors yellow, blue, green, and red, participated.
The houses are named after the four ships of the famous explorer, Captain James Cook: — Resolution is Blue, Endeavor – Yellow, Adventure – Green, and Discovery is Red.
And at the end of the day, Endeavor came out the winner with 821 points, two houses – Adventure and Discovery tied for 2nd place and Resolutions brings up the rear with 680 points.
Deputy Principal Primary Presila Simo said the carnival-like atmosphere was full of excitement and was enjoyable and it brought out a lot of fun for the children as the start to today’s Children’s Day celebration.
She said the event was always held in during the first term in the month of May, but this year it was delayed to this month due to the effects of the devastation by Tropical Cyclone Pam in March this year. Simo said the results have been announced. However the trophy will be presented in December. She said last year’s sports festival was also won by Endeavor.
In addition to the races, Vanuatu Football Federation’s Grassroot football was also on hand to teach soccer skills to the students, Ms. Simo added. Also, the Health Department personnel help provide tooth brush and paste to the students and gave demonstrations on how to properly brush the teeth.
The school’s senior cyclone – Year 7 through 13, held their sports festival at the Port Vila Municipal Stadium over two days on Wednesday and Thursday.
