Department of Labour launches new website

The Department of Labour (DOL), in partnership with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Vanuatu Council of Trades Union (VCTU) is launching a new platform for job seekers and employers.

Dr. Jorge Bouchot, ODI Fellow at the DOL and Labour Market Research Coordinator said the new platform — is specifically designed for 3 segments of the working population: employers, job seekers and self-employed workers, contractors or service providers.

Dr. Bouchot added that a fundamental outcome of this platform is to have a system that provides the DOL with updated labour market data.

The Director General (DG) Ministry of Internal Affairs, Cherol Ala Ianna, noted this will support decentralization efforts.

DG Ala added that on Thursday this week, the DOL organized a soft launch ceremony with development partners to formally request financial assistance for the sustainability and growth of the website.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Ishmael Kalsakau, congratulated the Commissioner of Labour, Murielle Meltenoven, and her staff for the major achievement.

The DPM reminded Ni Vanuatu citizens that the DOL and the Department of Local Authorities through the Area Administrators in the 71 Area Councils of the country are there to assist them, either through the website or their offices.
