You may have spotted some fresh faces in your local schools.
Teaching students from Deakin University in Australia are visiting Port Vila to complete their teaching practice in Vanuatu schools under the supervision of some ni-Vanuatu teachers. They have much to learn about teaching in Vanuatu and are working hard and enjoying every moment.
They will spend three weeks teaching at Mele Maat, Kawenu, Vila East, Vila North, Central, Freshwota, Seaside, Malapoa and Ifira schools.
They are also working with children at Wan Smolbag to redesign and paint a wall mural at the entrance to the Yut Senta.
The group is part of a Deakin University study tour here to work with students and gain teaching experience from mentor staff. The team of 17 students is led by Dr Peta White and Dr John Cripps-Clark continuing a 15-year collaboration with Vanuatu schools.
The students worked hard to prepare for living in Vanuatu and speaking Bislama and attended a workshop with Deputy Principal Anne-Rose Tjiobang from VITE. Afterwards, they shared a special barbeque dinner prepared by staff and students of VITE.
The students will host Afterschool Activities including sports, dance, craft and games on Thursday afternoons. They will be at Freshwota School on Thursday 29th June at 3pm, and Central School on Thursday 6th July at 3.30pm. All school-aged children are invited to attend.
