Memebers of Area Council

Shefa Provincial

Councillors Paape Vatoko of Mele and Bob Homu of Mele Maat have handed over six tables to the Farea Sosori Women Market House Association, to give birth to the Mele Area Council which was born only an hour earlier last Friday.

While handing over the table Councillor Vatoko says their Area Council may be the latest to open, but in a way, they have taken the lead to help their communities by providing new mattresses for a group of women at Mele Maat and the tables for the women of Mele even before the launching.

The money for the purchases was taken from the Area Council’s budget.

Secretary General for Shefa Province Michel Kalworai says each Area Council has its own budget that is deposited into its account.

The SG says what the Province expects the Area Council to demonstrate is transparency, accountability and responsibility in its quarterly reports.

As long as its financial reports are in order, its budget is deposited every quarter.
