Chief Masepong of Lelepa says he believes he is speaking on behalf of the people of Efate Rural concerning Radio Vanuatu broadcast blackout in the villages.
He is concerned that the country is in the cyclone season and they cannot listen to the radio concerning any cyclone warning.
Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation General Manager Fred Vurobaravu says the two medium wave transmitters on 1125 kilohertz in Port Vila and 1179 kilohertz in Santo are both off as their power boards are faulty and have been sent to America for repair.
The shortwave transmitters on 3945 and 7260 kilohertz did not function in the last two weeks but they are back on air. “They can also be accessed in rural Efate too as well as the medium wave 1125 kilohertz but without any capacity to access short wave, you cannot hear us on Radio Vanuatu as it has to be shortwave band”, he explains.
