The Government has agreed to financially support Ni-Vanuatu citizens who are experiencing serious Adverse Effect Following Immunization (AEFI), that is COVID-19 vaccine linked and specifically confirmed Vaccine Induced Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (VITTS).

This was resolved during the Council of Ministers (COM) in its 26th Ordinary COM Meeting on November 10, 2021.

A consistent budget will be provided as per the COM decision for AEFI patients whose conditions are difficult to manage in Vanuatu, and required further medical treatment in Noumea, New Caledonia.

The COM agreed on an amount of VT120, 344,988, for four patients; and VT30, 086, 247 to cover for one patient.

COM has further approved an additional budget of VT8, 666, 000, specifically to assist the Ministry of Health with diagnosis and treatment of serious AEFI.
