The President of the Upper Council of the Nagriamel Movement, Chief Abel Nakotaitai has confirmed endorsement of Mr. Makali Baniuri as the only Nagriamel candidate for the upcoming by-election of Malo/Aore constituency brought about by the passing of Nagriamel MP, Havo Molisale, early this year.
The confirmation of the endorsement of Baniuri was made in a letter to the President of the Nagriamel Political Commission, John Lum.
Party spokesperson Jeff Patunvanu says the final decision to endorse Baniuri’s name as a candidate followed custom protocols held on Malo in respect of the late leader and various meetings held between late Havo Molisale’s relatives, the Upper Council of Chiefs on Malo, the National Political Commission and Political arm of Malo.
Patunvanu clarified that a Mr. Bani Livo was initially nominated. However, the first and second meeting of the Nagriamel Regional Executive of Malo /Aore on 24th March 2016, resolved to withdraw the nomination of Mr. Livo and further resolved to endorse Mr. Baniuri as the only Nagriamel Candidate.
“The nomination of Mr. Makali Baniuri was endorsed by Mr. John Lum, President of National Political Commission on 25th April 2016 and further endorsed by the National Upper Council Chairman and President of the Nagriamel Movement, Chief Abel Nakotaitai.
“Therefore the choice had been made by the Malo Nagriamel leaders for Mr. Makali Baniuri to contest the sympathy election under Nagriamel,” he added.
Patunvanu emphasized that should Mr. Bani Livo wish to continue to run in the election he would have to contest under another political name.
