The Iauko Group Tongoa Regional Executive says it welcomes the formation of a Unity Bloc by NUP, MPP, VP and UMP supported by former MPs John Robert Alick and Karie Robert, in the constituency of their MP John Amos of Pele Village in Central Tongoa.
The group says MP Amos is now in jail with 13 other MPs who were found guilty of bribery.
Iauko Group spokesman Berry Fred says an appeal by the jailed MPs will be heard on November 9 next week. “MP John Amos is the youngest of all the Members of Parliament who has been elected to represent the people of Tongoa”, he said.
“MP John Amos has contributed significantly to the development of the island in his political capacity and his personal businesses compared to any former mps or former state ministers”.
He said Unity Bloc’s endorsement of Eric Pakoa as their candidate to contest the election, if MP Amos’ seat becomes vacant, is not a new candidate or a threat to them.
“Iauko Group worries that the Unity Bloc may lead Mr Eric Marakiwola to a disastrous election,” Fred warned.
“We feel that since MP John Amos is a very close relative of Mr Eric Pakoa, it is only proper and respectful that Mr Eric Pakoa and the Unity Bloc show their respect by voting a candidate that will be endorsed by Iauko Group should the seat become vacant to continue the legacy.”
The Iauko Group appeals to the people of Tongoa, especially the voters to be patient while they wait for the final decisions to be taken by the Government of the day. The Iauko Group is also calling on all political leaders on Tongoa, Tongoa Council of Chiefs and Women and Churches, to stand firm in their focus and respect MP Amos for what he has done for them.
