The President of the Vanuatu National Council of Women (VNCW) Mrs. Blandine Boulekone, has said that women in Vanuatu totally disagree with the Deep Sea Mining in Vanuatu Waters.
In a statement to the Daily Post yesterday morning, Mrs. Boulekone strongly expressed the Vanuatu Women’s opposition to such projects.
“We totally oppose to deep sea mining in Vanuatu. The mothers in this nation stand firm to say, do not ruin our islands and sea. This is God-given to us not to be spoiled for the gain of money. We are totally opposed to this,” she said.
“Such ideas of making money and get-rich-quick is against God’s creation and also a disregard to the future generations of our country. We oppose the idea.”
She said if the government is allowing law makers to prepare legislation on the deep sea mining, is already an indication of the Government’s approval for such destructive projects to Vanuatu’s Environment and God’s creation to go ahead.
“We have enough natural disasters already such as cyclones, tidal waves, flooding volcanic eruptions, earthquakes that have much negative impact on our environment and do not want to see man made disasters such as the Deep Sea Mining,” she stated on behalf of the VNCW and the Women of Vanuatu.
She said the VNCW had decided and agreed during its meetings in 2012 and 2013 not to attend anymore meetings on such projects except to state that women of Vanuatu totally oppose to the deep sea mining in Vanuatu.
“Respect our environment and sustainability” the VNCW statement signed by its President Mrs. Boulekone, ended.
