A man from Tanna who says he has followers in Port Vila and nearby areas of rural Efate, Chief Sam Lop Iatinapang, has joined the Vanuatu Green Confederation Party after performing a traditional ceremony with the President of Green, Moana Carcasses, and his National Executive.
Chief Iatinapang told the Daily Post he has left the National Community Association (NCA) to join Green Confederation because he believed that Green Party could help his people.
On May 30, 2015 he met with Green’s President, Moana Carcasses and members of his National Executive at his nakamal at Rentapau, on Efate and gave the Green President a head of kava, one mat and one white fowl (of important custom significance on Tanna).
This was before the government changed.
Mr Carcasses, then Leader of the Opposition, is now Deputy Prime Minister.
“I have moved to Green Party with my 12 chairmen of 12 executive committees representing my people in Anabrou and Beverley Hills in Port Vila and at Elasariklolo at Pango,” Chief Sam Iatinapang said.
“I have been with a number of different political parties, but now I believe working with the Green Party will reap more benefits for my supporters, in terms of work and other such areas of help,” he added.
The chief said Green’s President, Moana Carcasses, has promised to find time to meet with him and his 12 chairmen after campaigning that is currently in progress on Santo for the Luganville Municipal council election later this month.
