Two Members of the Vanuatu Parliament have withdrawn their signatures from the Motion of No Confidence in the Prime Minister, Joe Natuman, lodged by the Opposition Friday.

The Motion signed by 27 MPs, a simple majority required to summon a sitting of Parliament, was lodged Friday afternoon by the Leader of the Opposition, Moana Carcasses, and his deputy, Serge Vohor.

The motion carried the signatures also of a number of Government MPs.

Speaker of Parliament Philip Boedoro confirmed that Government backbenchers- Ambae MP Richard Mera, and Member of Parliament for Malekula Pastor Kaltaliu Simeon, lodged letters at the weekend with the Speaker stating that they were withdrawing their signatures that appeared in the motion.

Boedoro said both MPs explained that their signatures had been given to an Opposition MP, Tony Nari, for a different reason but had been used without their knowing in the motion of no confidence.

The Speaker of Parliament said at least three other Government backbenchers whose signatures are on the motion have expressed intentions to withdraw their signatures. He said also that he expected to respond by the end of today to the Opposition’s request for the Speaker to summon Parliament to debate the motion of no confidence.
