Handwashing and hygiene awareness – coloring contest

Children take part in hygiene awareness at Seaside Stage

A total of 249 children from six target communities participated in handwashing and hygiene awareness during the school break in September.

School children were educated with the use of the ‘Lukaotem Gud Tolet’ comic book, created by Wan Smolbag for Port Vila Urban Development Project (PVUDP).

The book explains the importance of good handwashing and problems faced when inappropriate items are flushed down the toilet.

Improved sanitation and hygiene in six selected communities and around Port Vila is one of the components of the PVUDP.

The Government of Vanuatu in partnership with the Australian Government and Asian Development Bank (ADB) are funding the Port Vila Urban Development Project (PVUDP) as one of the major investments in the nation’s Capital.

PVUDP will contribute to sustainable urban development in Port Vila through improved road, drainage, sanitation infrastructure and services. The project duration is from February 2013 to December 2018.
