The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

clinic is a small clinic located in a corner of the Vila Central Hospital (VCH) of Port Vila and is not obvious to a lot of people. But the clinic is one of the busiest clinics of the VCH.

According to Nurse Eslyn Napau, their statistics show that the clinic sees more patients compared to the Eye Clinic located in the same corner of the hospital but about the same number as the Anti-natal Clinic located also in the same corner.

The ENT Clinic of the VCH is manned by Nurse-in-Charge Andorine Aki, who is assisted by Nurse Eslyn Napau, and they are helped by two male Nurse Aids – Alfredo Virvir and Dominique Isaac.

The team sees people with infections in the ear, nose and throat, who are referred to them for treatment

“This is a busy clinic. In one day we see an average of 60 patients, most of them with ear infections and only 10 % of them are those with either nose or throat infections,” Nurse Napau said.

She added that this time of the year, many of the ear infections are the result of people doing a lot of swimming due to the heat, and also due to the flu that is now going around.

Napau says the clinic received for treatment only a few emergency cases during the Christmas and New Year weeks, mostly people with fractures, nose bleeds and punctures.
