People going to the Bauerfield Airport International Terminal in Port Vila now, either to travel or to farewell passengers, find themselves sitting on the floor because all the seating that used to be there has been removed.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Airports Vanuatu Limited (AVL), Jason Rakau, explains that all the seating has been removed for repair and they anticipate new furniture to be put in by the end of March 2018.

He is appealing to everyone to bear with them for a few more weeks until the new furniture for the airport check-in area is refitted.

“We have requested our staff to ensure passengers and visitors are made as comfortable as possible during this period that we are awaiting new seating to be installed,” he says.

The Daily Post found people mid last week sitting on the floor including some overseas visitors – men, women and children waiting for the plane. Many other people were standing with some departing passengers seen filling their immigration departure cards standing up.

“We are now looking forward to the new furniture and hopefully new seating arrangements as part of the current renovation of the terminal taking place,” he says.

The AVL CEO also mentions there are problems with the toilets of the check-in area and these are being fixed.
