Application for urgent hearing granted

The court will hear the appeal application filed by former Speaker of Parliament, Gracia Shedrack, through his legal counsels on October 25, 2021.

This comes as Chief Justice Vincent Lunabek granted the Application for Urgent Hearing of the appeal.

The final edition of the Court of Appeal Session for 2021 is scheduled for November.

The Second Extraordinary Session of Parliament is also expected to convene around the beginning of November.

MP Shedrack, the appellant, is appealing against part of the judgement delivered by Justice Trief on September 6, 2021 in the Electoral Petition case. Nigel Morrison and Stephanie Mahuk act for Shedrack.

The Respondents named in this case are: Prime Minister Bob Loughman, Deputy Prime Minister Ishmael Kalsakau, Minister of Finance, Johnny Koanapo, Minister of Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Jay Ngwele, Minister of Trade James Bule, Minister of Agriculture Willie Daniel, Minister of Youth and Sports Willie Satearoto, Minister of Climate Change Bruno Lenkon, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mark Ati, Speaker of Parliament Seule Simeon, Minister of Health Silas Bule, Samson Samsen, Edward Nalyal, Nakou Natuman, Leonard Hosua Pikioune (sic), Marc Muelsul, Edmond Julun, Xavier Harry and Anthony Harry, Anatole Hymak and Bodio Carlo.

They will be represented by Sakiusa Kalsakau.

Andrew Bal is the legal counsel of the Speaker of Parliament, who is the 22nd Respondent in this case while State Law Office acts for the State, the 3rd Respondent.
