The Electoral Commission has already declared the names of qualified candidates for the TORBA Local Government Council Election, scheduled to be held on December 7, 2021.
A total of 25 candidates will be contesting for at least seven seats for the seven constituencies: namely, constituency of Torres, constituency of Ureparapara, constituency of Vanualava, constituency of Motalava, constituency of Mota, constituency of Gaua/Merig, and constituency of Merelava.
Candidates are contesting under respective political parties, including, Leaders Party of Vanuatu, Vanuatu National Development Party, Vanua’aku Pati, Rural Development Party, Graon mo Jastis Pati, Reunification Movement for Change and People Unity Development Party.
Last month, a Council of Ministers (COM) decision resolved that the TORBA Provincial election be postponed to early 2022.
Despite the postponement, elections will go ahead. Daily Post is informed that political campaigns have commenced.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) to the Government, Fred Vurobaravu said the government is expected to come out clear on their position surrounding the TORBA elections, this week.
