Prime Minister Moana Carcasses has announced his intention to offer Vanuatu as a haven for environmental immigrants who are displaced by sea level rising and other effects of climate change.
“I plan to put forward a proposal before the government, chiefs and the social sector to formulate a climate change policy that will include accepting our neighbors around the pacific who are affected by rising sea levels.
“It is our custom, man Vanuatu, that when someone is in need, we don’t turn a blind eye but are obligated to help. And the Vanuatu people are good hearted and generous people, so I don’t see any problem against the idea,” the prime minister said.
