Port Vila Volleyball League (PVVL) concluded its colorful championship on a high note last week.
At the Finals of the Championship, a representative from UNELCO was available to give out prices for the winning teams.
The winner for the Men’s 1st Division was:-
1st Place Walarano Volleyball Club
2nd Place Mele Volleyball Club
3rd Place Ratua Volleyball CLub
The competition between Mele and Walarano for the 1st place was challenging and despite Mele winning the first set of the match, Walarano did not hesitate to fight hard for the 1st place and displayed a very interesting game by winning Mele with 3 sets to 1.
The winner for the Women’s Division was:
1st Place Eagles Volleyball Club
2nd Place Sunrise Volleyball Club
3rd Place INTV
INTV managed to join the Championship 2 months after the start of it and consisting of VIT students only, it managed to enter the semi finals but lost. It secured the third place by winning Teoumaville Volleyball Club.
Eagles Volleyball Club has held the Championship position in the Women’s Division for a number of years now and most of its players represent Port Vila in Provincial Games.
It was an easy win over Sunrise Volleyball Club by 3-0.
Quite a few number of its players have been selected to train in the Pre-Selection squad that will be training for the Torba Games which is scheduled for May 2011 and thereafter the South Pacific Games which will be held in Noumea somewhere in October 2011.
The Men’s 2nd Division was won by Mauriki Volleyball Club from Mele Village with an easy win over Kandue Volleyball Club of 3 sets to 0. Mauriki will automatically enter the Men’s 1st Division next year.
Kangwai which is a new team consisting mainly of young boys from Ambae who is coached by Remmie Vira who also works at UNELCO came 3rd in the Mens 2nd Division ranking.
With all the above results, the Executive of the Port Vila Volleyball League would like to thank UNELCO for its sponsorship of 70 000 vatu prize money and for being the major sponsor, its supporters and Clubs for their support and assistance in all areas of work by helping to display volleyball again in Port Vila which we (PVFL) note has again made history in the history of sports in Port Vila and Vanuatu as a whole.
PVVL would like to thank all their invited guests who were available at the finals on Thursday 4 November 2010 at the Ex FOL.
PVVL also acknowledges the presence of the representative from UNELCO, the representative from the Ministry of Youth & Sports, the President of the Vanuatu Amateur Volleyball Federation (VVF) and the Commissioner of the Vanuatu Referee Commission from the VVF.
