NUP candidate in Port Vila is Lango

“The National United Party (NUP) has only one candidate in Port Vila but not four as claimed by some NUP supporters,” says NUP Port Vila Regional Coordinator Noel Lango.

The NUP Port Vila candidate is Noel Lango himself whose nomination was presented and approved by the NUP Congress on Tanna. He is currently a Port Vila Municipal Councilor.

Lango said three other members of NUP also intend to contest in the October 2012 general elections. But he clarified that only one candidate was approved by the party congress and that is himself who is the Port Vila Regional President.

“The decision of the congress is final and no member of NUP can change this. The NUP Executive also upholds the decision of the congress. And I wish to advise all NUP supporters throughout Port Vila that there is only one NUP candidate for the 2012 general elections and that is myself,”Lango told Daily Post.
The NUP Port Vila candidate Lango revealed to Daily Post that there is still dissatisfaction amongst some NUP supporters in the capital which has led to three more NUP Port Vila Regional Members also wanting to stand as NUP candidates in the coming elections.

He called on NUP supporters who created divisions among NUP supporters in Port Vila town to stop dividing the party supporters by suggesting other candidates above the decision already taken by the party congress.

“ It’s none other than staff within the Ministry of Trade controlled by NUP who are creating the current rift among NUP supporters by suggesting three more new names as NUP candidate after the mandate of the congress. As the President of the Port Vila Region I am calling on them to stop this and stick to one candidate who is my-self as mandated by the Tanna congress,” Lango expressed through Daily Post.

He said NUP National Executive cannot bend the party constitution nor tolerate the attitude of division amongst some NUP power hungry individuals.
