Minister’s kick lands councilor in hospital
Port Vila municipality councilor, Willie Kaloris, had to seek medical attention at the Vila Central Hospital yesterday after he was allegedly kicked in the groin by the Minister of Finance, Moana Carcasses Kalosil.
Mr. Kaloris, a councilor of the Port Vila Municipal Council reinstated by the Minister of Internal Affairs this week, said he was kicked in the groin by Mr Carcasses Tuesday night at the popular Chiefs Nakamal kava bar in Port Vila.
The councilor said the Minister of Finance was allegedly angry after finding out that he no longer had the numbers to head the reinstated PVMC, adding that he now commands nine councilors of the total of 14. With this majority he said his group will elect the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and lead the council of Port Vila.
Waving a medical report he received from the Vila Central Hospital for the injury he sustained from the kick, Mr. Kaloris said he understood the Minister of Finance was allegedly trying to bribe some of the councilors to rejoin his group.
But he added his group’s solidarity was strong and on Friday they would elect former Deputy Mayor Reuben Olul the new Mayor of Port Vila. Councilor Kaloris also said he would seek legal redress against Mr Carcasses for the injury he received from the incident.
The Minister of Finance, Moana Carcasses, has meanwhile confirmed that he was involved in an incident with councilor Kaloris.
The PVMC headed by Mayor Satearoto of Moana Carcasses’ Green’s Party suspended for 11 months for mismanagement was reinstated by the Minister of Internal Affairs Georges Wells Tuesday afternoon.
