Land and justice key for good life: Regenvanu

The Minister of Justice during his visit to Sanma Province said “graon mo jastis” is the key to having a better life.

Regenvanu stated this to the people at Unity Park when he launched his political party Friday.

He said these two components of having a good judiciary system and regaining of customary lands which is identity of the people is the basis of having a good life and everyone needs to be conscious about this.

He said he believes most of the problems are affecting the communities today because there is lack of these two components in the system.

“If we have our land problem solved which means customary lands being returned to land owners and we have a good system of Judiciary in our communities today, we should not have problems disturbing us,” Regenvanu told supporters at the unity Park.

Regenvanu who attended as a political leader during this event, made clear to the people that when he is in the government he is fighting very hard to stop the increase of investors who come in just to get involved in land speculation.

He said he is sad to see locals selling their identity, which is their land, to investors.

He said he understands most of the land areas around Efate are sold to investors and most of the people don’t have privileges to access beaches. He said when he travelled to East Santo, he was sad to see what seems to be this same practice already exploding the Santo rural areas.

One of the key points of naming his party “Graon” is to advocate against the selling of land. During his launching of new party he urged leaders around Sanma province to keep their land to ensure the safety of the next generation of the country.

Apart from land the minister made explanations clear about a better judiciary system. He said now in Vanuatu there are two judiciary systems- western system and Vanuatu system.

But the western system which is the court system has consumed a lot from locals to spend large sums of money where sometimes claimants may lose the case. But he prefers the local system which is the chiefly system which deals with problems in a custom manner which helps for sides and locals don’t spend money to solve a problem.
