Escapees, fireworks and break-ins major disturbances: Police

Apart from the seven high-risk prisoners still at large, police have named fireworks and break-ins as two other main disturbances in this Christmas Season.

When contacted yesterday afternoon Head of Police Station, Inspector Jackson Noel could not be reached as he was meeting Civil Aviation officials to discus how the issue of fireworks can be addressed.

“We have received many complaints from Port Vila residents about loud noises caused by fireworks and firecrackers,” Chief Inspector George Towmey told Daily Post yesterday afternoon.

“Inspector Noel is currently in a meeting with the Director of Civil Aviation to discuss the legal side of the issue of fireworks see if they can come up with ways to address the issue,” he added.

Chief Inspector Towmey revealed that break-ins is another main criminal activity they have to deal with under the festive season’s special operation.

Although he did not reveal how many all together, he said there were “many break-ins”. The police are also in no position to confirm if the break-ins are related to the prison escapes.
