MPP’s loyalty to Natapei’s bloc remains solid

A member of VP’s Natapei bloc in the Carcasses-led government, Melanesian Progressive Party (MPP) has confirmed its solidarity with the government side.

MPP spokesman told Daily Post yesterday that with two parliamentarians inside the current government, they are determined to see the government through its term in office.

“MPP will never support an opposition sponsored motion so the party can assure the Deputy Prime Minister, Natapei as the leader of our bloc in the government and the Prime Minister, Moana Carcasses himself of our support,” said MPP Spokesman, Peter Tulangi.

MP Moli’s sentencing adjourned over fact disagreement

The sentencing of Luganville Member of Parliament, Kalvau Moli in his obstruction case has been adjourned by the Supreme Court after legal counsels disagree over case facts.

Sentencing hearing of the case, Public Prosecutor vs Kalvau Moli was scheduled for Tuesday this week but MP Moli and his Lawyer failed to turn up to court.

Private lawyer, John Timakata who has been hired to prosecute the case on behalf of the Public Prosecutor told Daily Post that due to the defendant’s absence, a warrant of arrest was issue by the court for Moli.

Opposition claims Beijing diplomat owns Vt70 million cars

A ni-Vanuatu diplomat at the Vanuatu Embassy at Beijing in the People’s Republic of China owns a Porsche Panemera and Mercedes 600 series valued at US700, 000 or about Vt70 Million.

Ambassador Dennis Nai, who was sacked as Ambassador to the Vanuatu Mission in China four days after Prime Minister Moana Carcasses was sworn in as PM, made that discovery.

Prime Minister Carcasses on official visit to Thailand

The Prime Minister, Moana Carcasses, leaves today for an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand, on the invitation of the Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawara as his special guest.

The Prime Minister and his delegation leave today for the visit which will take them to certain parts of Thailand, according to a press statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

At the same time the Vanuatu leader will attend the 2nd Asia/Pacific Water Summit to be held in northern Thailand, during which he will deliver a speech on behalf of the countries of the South Pacific islands region.

VIPA investigation reaches Minister

The three-man commission tasked with looking into the operations of the Vanuatu Investment Promotion Authority (VIPA) has completed its investigation and handed its report to the Minister for Tourism and Commerce, Marcellino Pipite.

The Commission of Inquiry chaired by Bill Bani and includes Secretary, Jimmy Andeng and member George Andrews, was appointed by the Minister on April 24 and given a fortnight to carry out an investigation into the affairs of VIPA and make recommendations for possible changes to the minister.
