A delegation from the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF), have just returned, from a 3-day study tour to its counterpart organization, the Solomon Islands National Provident Fund in Honiara.

The delegation included the VNPF Chairman, the General Manager, and Investment Director.

The VNPF delegation was welcome in Honiara by the SINPF Chairman of the Board Baoro Laxton Koroaua and the General Manager Tony Makabo.

The Opposition is claiming that it currently has 26 MPs backing it for its proposed motion of no confidence, which it is expecting to lodge towards the end of the week.

This claim was made by Vice-President of the National United Party (NU) and Tanna member of parliament, Morkin Steven, who defected after his termination recently as Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Moana Carcasses.

But the Government through Public Relations Officer, Letty Kaltonga, has told Daily Post that its coalition number remains solid.

The workshop was conducted on the 07th of May 2013 by a specialist from the Department of Environment and comes as a refresher to a similar one that had been conducted earlier.

The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer is an international treaty designed by the United Nation to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of numerous substances believed to be responsible for ozone depletion. It is a treaty that is set.

Transaction Value is the first of six (6) methods of valuation that are use to conduct valuation of goods. Customs valuation is basically the process where customs authorities assign a monetary value to a good or service for the purposes of import or export. Generally, authorities engage in this process as a means of protecting tariff concessions, collecting revenue for the governing authority, implementing trade policy, and protecting public health and safety.

Vanuatu has discovered itself during the WTO Needs Assessment workshop held in Suva, Fiji from 15th to 19th April 2013, as the most compliant WTO member within the region.

A fully compliant level of 62 percent was reported as the final outcomes of the assessment. This was equivalent to 28 articles under WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation being fully complied with by Vanuatu.

International Museum Day, Friday 17 May 2013 will be marked by the National Museum of Vanuatu by showcasing 4 unique exhibitions.

The four unique exhibitions will not only attempt to reach all types of visitors but also intends to interpret this year’s theme, Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change.

The first exhibition will showcase unique artifacts associated with funerary rituals in some of the Islands of Vanuatu. The second exhibition will exhibit artifacts from the Tafea collection including rare mats and baskets and also materials associated with Toka ceremony.

“The decentralization policy cannot be fully functional unless the powers to implement policies go right down to the Area Councils,” Internal Affairs Minister Patrick Crowby told local reporters recently.
He said it is also the reason why the population of Vanuatu do not fully benefit from the development policy decisions made at the top –the national level.

For this very reason, Minister Crowby will present a Bill for the Area Councils to be empowered to implement development policies in order to provide quick and efficient services delivery to the rural population of Vanuatu.
