Re: Dropouts

Dear Editor,

In reply to your article in the Vanuatu Daily Post, Friday, June 14, 2013, “Communities urged to support Torgil Rural Training Centre”. It is not the first time that students in Rural Training Centres (RTC’s) have been referred to in your newspaper as “dropouts”.

For many young people in Vanuatu, education is cut short at the end of primary school because the fees are too expensive for their families and places in secondary schools are restricted.

Re: Tax havens and the real culprit

Dear Editor,

I write to comment on the full page article in the Daily Post on Wednesday 12 June about Vanuatu's tax haven status.

The writer, and the public generally, completely miss the culprit, if there is one.

The article alleges that there is some 4 trillion British Pounds (equivalent) being held in tax havens around the world.

That is roughly US$ 6,000,000,000,000 and it alleges governments around the world have been deprived of approximately US$ 150,000,000,000 in revenue.

Re: Money and sex asked by visiting ‘elders, pastors’

Dear Editor,

Please allow me space to voice a deep concern on this issue as appeared on Daily Post Issue 3883 on Friday June 14, 2013.

This is just not on for a Christian Nation as Vanuatu. The persons concerned in carrying this practice should be reminded that no any single person ever living on the face of the planet earth has the biblical and moral right to trade the works of the Almighty for business gain and for person human sexual desire. I say again, - this is not on.

2013 annual Red Cross gala a success

Around 270 guests guaranteed the success of the 6th Annual Red Cross Gala- ‘From Rio to Venice Masquerade’ Saturday night at Le Lagon’s Convention Centre.

The rain failed to dampen the merry atmosphere of the night, highlighted by dazzling masks, gorgeous gowns, dapper suits and heels.

But the core reality under all the glitter was these guests have rallied together to raise funds for emergency relief response to disasters in Vanuatu when they footed the Vt6, 000 tickets to attend the masquerade.
