Former athlete to be new instructor inside Oceania

Vanuatu Athletics will have for the first time an instructor in the Oceania Region. David Benjamin who hails from Pentecost, an athlete himself, is the instructor, having been selected amongst others in the Oceania Region to instruct in the Oceania Level 1 Athletics Coaching course in Nandi Fiji on the 2nd of May to the 14th May 2013.

David Benjamin began his career in athletics Santo coached under the watchful eyes of Vanuatu’s former top sprinter Jansen Moli. David Benjamin is currently rank number one (1) in Vanuatu in the 400M flat and 400M Hurdle.

Leaders seal Pentecost Day theme

The Acting Prime Minister, Ralph Regenvanu, the Leader of the Opposition, Ham Lini, and Pentecost MP Tony Nari, sealed the theme of the 2013 Pentecost Island celebrations in Port Vila “Gifts of the Holy Spirit and Unity” with sharing of kava at the Anglican Church Stage at Tagabe witnessed by a crowd of men, women and children on Sunday.

MOU marking TVET Programme increase

“The Australian Government through the MOU has renewed its commitment to support the development of the tourism industry through TVET Programmes and skills training and business development services and those sorts of things will continue to be provided in Sanma and Malampa Provinces and will be opening a third call centre later this year.”

400-seater Ferry to service Vanuatu islands shortly

Vanuatu Ferry is the name of a ferry that has a capacity of 300 passengers but is now refitted to 400 seats that is expected to arrive in the country shortly.

Originally known as Moorea Ferry, the passenger ship used to transport the people of Moorea Island and Tahiti in French Polynesia and this time, switched its destiny to serve the islands of Vanuatu.

Technical fault with ATR72

Air Vanuatu’s ATR72 aircraft is currently out of service since last Saturday due to a technical fault.

The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Laloyer, explained that there is a motoring fault with the plane’s electrical system, which has resulted in the decision to not have the aircraft fly until the spare part arrives and is installed.

He said since Saturday they have sourced the spare part with Air Calin in New Caledonia, Air Pacific in Fiji, Mount Cook with Air New Zealand and Heavy Lift in Papua New Guinea, but everyone did not have the part in question.

Twenty Teachers from kindergartens around Efate spent a whole week learning what to do if there is a tsunami, earthquake, flood or cyclone.

Unlike the past experiences in which teachers initially think of them and tend to forget children during hazardous events, the training called ‘Disaster Risk Management for Early Childhood Education’ (DRM/ECE) was funded and conducted by Caritas Solomon to teach these early childhood teachers the right response during disasters in the future.

The big theme was “listen to the teacher”-teacher is responsible for students at school.

Committee says bungalows will meet minimum standard

The first ever Vanuatu Tourism Accreditation Committee has been set up to coordinate the development and establishment of a National Accreditation System and Classification System to improve the standards of tourism products and services in the islands.

The objectives of the VTAC are;
• To establish a National Accreditation system to improve the standards of tourism products and services
• To improve the competitiveness of Vanuatu as tourism destination through quality standards

PM was elected by people and Parliament: Yatan

The Minister of Justice, Silas Yatan, has questioned why the Opposition leaders and some politicians do not agree that a naturalised citizen should become a prime minister.

He said Vanuatu is now a mature country and all politicians and political leaders as well as other leaders should accept to live side by side and contribute with positive visions towards the development of the country and the welfare of the people of Vanuatu.
