Government achieves 30% of 100-day-plan

The current government has been in office for over a month since it was established towards the end of March, but it has already achieved 30 percent of proposals put forward for implementation within its first 100 days in office.

The head of government, Moana Carcasses, had this to say during an interview with Daily Post here in Suva, Fiji.

MOU formalises recruitment of Police Liaison Officer

The Director General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group Secretariat, Mr Peter Forau and the Commissioner of Police of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) of Papua New Guinea, Commissioner, Tom Kulunga, signed an MOU to formalize the recruitment of a Police Liaison Officer (PLO) from the RPNGC to be seconded to the MSG Secretariat.

The signing ceremony today will enable the secondment of the PLO to work with the Secretariat on Police Cooperation arrangements between member countries of the MSG, a key work program of the Police Commissioners Conference.

VNPF delegation visits SINPF

A delegation from the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF), have just returned, from a 3-day study tour to its counterpart organization, the Solomon Islands National Provident Fund in Honiara.

The delegation included the VNPF Chairman, the General Manager, and Investment Director.

The VNPF delegation was welcome in Honiara by the SINPF Chairman of the Board Baoro Laxton Koroaua and the General Manager Tony Makabo.

motion looming, Gov’t says it’s solid

The Opposition is claiming that it currently has 26 MPs backing it for its proposed motion of no confidence, which it is expecting to lodge towards the end of the week.

This claim was made by Vice-President of the National United Party (NU) and Tanna member of parliament, Morkin Steven, who defected after his termination recently as Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Moana Carcasses.

But the Government through Public Relations Officer, Letty Kaltonga, has told Daily Post that its coalition number remains solid.

Customs border officers attending reresher course on Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer

The workshop was conducted on the 07th of May 2013 by a specialist from the Department of Environment and comes as a refresher to a similar one that had been conducted earlier.

The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer is an international treaty designed by the United Nation to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of numerous substances believed to be responsible for ozone depletion. It is a treaty that is set.

Methods of valuation and declaration of goods transaction value method

CUSTOMS AND INLAND REVENUE

Transaction Value is the first of six (6) methods of valuation that are use to conduct valuation of goods. Customs valuation is basically the process where customs authorities assign a monetary value to a good or service for the purposes of import or export. Generally, authorities engage in this process as a means of protecting tariff concessions, collecting revenue for the governing authority, implementing trade policy, and protecting public health and safety.

Vanuatu bearing high in the region in complying to WTO agreement on trade facilitation.

Vanuatu has discovered itself during the WTO Needs Assessment workshop held in Suva, Fiji from 15th to 19th April 2013, as the most compliant WTO member within the region.

A fully compliant level of 62 percent was reported as the final outcomes of the assessment. This was equivalent to 28 articles under WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation being fully complied with by Vanuatu.

Government replies to MP Willie Jimmy

Despite MP Willie Jimmy’s vehement denial of attempts to form another bloc to work against the present Government, a fourteen-point Government press statement has insisted that the main reason for his termination was his “continuing attempts” to form a third political bloc within the current Government with the aim of installing himself as Prime Minister with the support of the Opposition.
